Decimals: Apply It 2

Yuric’s Fresh Start: A Shopping Adventure! Cont.

Finally Yuric makes it to the shopping center. His gas tank is full, his excitement level is high and he is ready to fill his car with purchases. The first store Yuric goes into is his favorite clothing store. They have everything Yuric could possibly need, or want. Yuric gathers some shirts and pants and heads to the checkout counter. One his way to the checkout, Yuric’s eyes catch a nice jacket and he wonders how much it would add to his current balance.

Yuric then notices the jacket was on the sales rack which is why there is a difference in the price he thinks it should be. Next to the jacket is a sweater Yuric really wants. Yuric decides to add a sweater along with the jacket to his purchases. His new total is now [latex]$221.91[/latex]. He ponders on how much he has spent on the sale items.

After making the purchases at the clothing store, Yuric has decided he has shopped enough. On his drive home Yuric finds [latex]$20[/latex] in his car and decides to buy lunch. Before Yuric goes to lunch he wants to make sure he saves enough money from the [latex]$20[/latex] he found to buy his coffee in the morning. Yuric pays [latex]$4.28[/latex] every morning for coffee.

Congratulations on navigating Yuric’s shopping trip! As you’ve seen, decimals are everywhere in our daily lives, from determining distances, calculating costs, to balancing budgets. You’ve successfully applied your knowledge of naming decimals, converting decimals to fractions, ordering decimals on a number line, and performing operations using decimals to solve real-world problems. Great job!
