Correcting the Memo

Remember our Memo? There were two spelling and grammar errors in the original text. Let’s use the review tools in Microsoft Word to find and correct these issues.

Copy/paste the text into Microsoft Word if you don’t have your copy saved. To: All Employees
From: Sierra Rowan, Store Manager
Date: September 1, 2019
Subject: New Shelves
Some of you may have noticed in recent weeks that the shelves in the home goods section are beginning to sag. We will be replacing those shelves with new, reinforced metal shelves starting next week. The shelves will be replaced 4:00–7:00 a.m., when the store is closed to customers. Several aisles in the home goods section will be off-limits to employees during that time as a safety precaution.
The following aisles will be affected:
Kitchen apliances
Kitchen & dining furniture
Kitchen storage
Home goods clearance
Please direct customers looking for items in the effected aisles to the Outdoor Furniture and Patio Accessories areas.
When we use an incorrect word in our sentences, it won’t necessarily be picked up by the spelling and grammar check built into Microsoft Word. Take a closer look at this sentence:”Please direct customers looking for items in the effected aisles to the Outdoor Furniture and Patio Accessories areas.”There’s an error in this sentence! We’ve incorrectly used the word effected instead of affected. Because of this limitation, many employees and students will use other tools such as ChatGPT or Grammarly to help find and correct grammatical mistakes. Be sure to check your school or employer AI policies when utilizing these tools.

Sierra wants to capitalize the “Home Goods” section in the memo. Use “Find” to determine how many times “home goods” appears in the memo. Then use “Find and Replace” to replace “home goods” with “Home Goods”
