Pacing Recommendations
Computer Applications for Managers contains 16 modules—roughly one module per week for a sixteen-week semester—and a final capstone assignment. The modules are grouped in order from most basic skills to more advanced skills; later modules will assume students have already covered previous modules. If you need to modify the pace and cover the material more quickly, the following modules work well together:
- Module 1: Intro to Computers, Module 2: Internet Research, and Module 3: Cloud Computing
- Module 4: Microsoft Word Basic Skills and Module 5: Microsoft Word Intermediate Skills
- Module 7: Microsoft Excel Basic Skills and Module 8: Microsoft Excel Intermediate Skills
- Module 10: Microsoft PowerPoint Basic Skills and Module 11: Microsoft PowerPoint Intermediate Skills
- Module 13: Microsoft Access Basic Skills and Module 14: Microsoft Access Intermediate Skills
We recommend NOT doubling up any of the Advanced Skills modules or the Integration module, because they are long and especially challenging. Students will need more time for mastery and completion of assignments.
Additionally, the course can be scaled to your students’ knowledge: if your students have already mastered basic skills, the basic modules can be omitted. If your students aren’t ready for advanced skills, the advanced modules can be omitted.
This course is aimed at beginning to intermediate computer users. It teaches a range of computer skills from the basics of using Windows, to basic internet literacy, to creating projects using Microsoft Office. Assignments show step-by-step visuals to help students complete projects, and include integration across Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Instructor Guides
Instructor Guides are provided for each module to support active learning, conceptual investigation, and collaboration. Each guide includes an overview of the module content, a summary of what students encounter in key sections, and a list of learning outcomes. You’ll also find engaging classroom activities with accompanying materials such as handouts and worksheets. Activities come with a suggested instructional plan, alignment to evidence-based teaching practices, discussion prompts, and an online variation that can be integrated into your LMS for hybrid or asynchronous classes.

Question Banks for Midterms and Finals
Lumen One provides access to outcome-aligned question banks that you can use to build your own exams. We provide these banks as QTI files, a standard format that allows you to import questions, build, and customize quizzes in most learning management systems. These files cannot be opened outside of an LMS.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is your responsibility to handle question banks and answer keys securely and appropriately to prevent them from being widely available.
How to Import
You must download the question bank specific to your LMS, open the file on your computer, and follow LMS-specific instructions for importing each module.
Please use the import instructions in our Lumen One knowledge-base for Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, and Moodle.
Available Question Banks
The question banks include at least 4 questions for every learning outcome throughout the entire course.
